Clean Getaway

Q: I study music. Someone told me, that as happens in many orders of life, not anybody can do certain things. For instance, not every person can attain a certain level of musicianship or a determined degree of skill with a given instrument. This has nothing to do with practice, or hard work, for it's something that exists within every human being. It's just a fact: some people are good cooking, or writing, or drawing, or with music. My question is, how do I know if I'm talented enough to have the possibility to be a good, at least decent, musician? A person told me once not to worry in the following manner: 'To pick up an instrument and being able to play it within 2 weeks, that's talent' (he was referring to my particular case). But still, how do I know if that talent is really there? How do I know if I'm not wasting my time trying to become better playing my instrument?

Thanks, David

A: Dear David

I will answer your last question first: “How do I know if I'm not wasting  my time trying to become better playing my instrument?

Fuckin’ hell.. what a question.   If your 'instrument' is your dick it might make sense.

Goodness Gracious, man!  Do you enjoy playing?  Does it thrill  you?  Would you rather be doing that than just about anything else?  If the  answer is yes,  what more do you need to know? You're probably a musician.   Do I approve of you playing  rather than 'building a proper career' working a shit job in an office or some other menial mindless planet-destroying crap to earn a living?  Why yes.. I do.  I think music and art and culture and soulful expression are more important than cheap and nasty commerce, even though often they become nothing more than cheap and nasty commerce.   But my main advice: don’t listen to what anybody says.   Including me.  Only you will know what you really want to do with your life.

And if you wanna go stuff your head down the toilet of bland and boring, mind-numbing and life-robbing day to day exigencies.. then fuck off and don't darken my website again.

Best and Regards

Delta Dawn
