Drinks at The Filmhouse w/ Ms Bell last night.  Seems evvybody's been 'lyin' in the cut' through the long grim Scottish winter.  Not a lot of gigging or steppin' out and no sense of having 'missed' anything by staying in... I call it DEVOLVING!  But there is a flurry of activity afoot.. molecules warming up as this month turns to the next and April is upon us.  Rosie is recording an album of her smoky cabaret self-penned tunes w/ Fritz Van H on drums and Norman Lamont on a variety of sound-making instruments and we look forward to hearing the fruits of those labours.

Not quite San Diego, but early June will see Castle Donnington hosting the DOWNLOAD FESTIVAL... mega-art-rockers TOOL along with our old pals METALLICA and a new-line up GUNS N ROSES will headline the Fri, Sat and Sun nights.  ALICE IN CHAINS (long time no see), KORN, PRODIGY, The DEFTONES,  BULLETS FOR MY VALENTINE, MIKE PATTON 'maybe' strutting his stuff with his new band.. etc etc.. goes on and gloriously on really.  A must be-and-see-you-there!

Over the St Patrick's Day / 6 Nations Rugby heavy-boozin', big-screen viewin' weekend, Irish band BELL X 1 did a big push in Edinburgh to promote their album 'FLOCK' and pre-ordered single 'FLAME'... first time I've seen a promotion that suggests if you text them your name (at a cost of  quid) you've bought the single.  Good idea.  Maybe Amplifico, (desperately sending out emails trying to raise cash to finish their debut album) should try it.

Trawling through the remarkable, relatively new, tome by Graham Hancock, "SUPERNATURAL", I came upon the following passage that doesn't surprise me in the least: ""In late July 2004, the Nobel-prize winning biologist Francis Crick, co-discoverer of the structure of DNA, died at the age of 88.  Soon afterwards a little known fact of his life hit the press...  That when he was working at the Cavendish Laboratory in Cambridge in the early 1950's, he frequently used LSD (which remained legal until the mid-60's) as a 'thinking tool' to boost his mental powers.  Crick had privately admitted to colleagues that he was under the influence of LSD in 1953 at the moment when he 'perceived the double helix shape' and unravelled the structure of DNA.""

Add him to the list of other great thinkers and inventors who dabbled and experimented with LSD from the 1940's through the 1970's, and, in the process contributed to the body of scientific fact, literary achievements, MINDBLOWING Music, cultural awareness; and, thankfully, altered our group consciousness, the products we use (i.e. most prominently Steve Jobs Windows programs / AppleMac personal computers design) and the manner in which we go about our daily lives.

So what have we got now?  Alkee-hol.  And what a DUMB fuckin' society we're living in.

In a BBC4 program the other night the narrator described 'normal' people as walking around as if they've been 'successfully lobotomised'.... there's some truth in that statement.  There's a lot going on, that absolutely no one seems to notice or bother about, as long as they've got some spending money, a pint on Friday night and their holidays booked.  So, here's just 'some' of the bad news about what's brewing back in the land of the free: - Bush's New Programs
