'Allo
Kiddies, A big Hanx to everyone that made it to the last Full Moon. To everyone else, here's what you missed... Electra started the show, singing along to backing tracks. The tracks are written and recorded by Electra herself, but it is her live singing over them that makes her performance stunning. Swooping from operatic arias to disco monotones via a country burr, this girl has a unique voice that really should be heard. Electra has impressed audiences at Full Moon several times now, including one show when she was on the bill with a glaswegian band called Electra. They are now calling themselves Electrika. Two members of Dovetail dropped in to give us an acoustic set, we'll get the whole band on another Full Moon. Laidback, but somehow intense, their songs demand attention; you have to listen properly to fully appreciate them. K 9 didn't demand attention, he just stood up and grabbed it. He's a young rapper from the borders, and he came across like Eminem with tourettes syndrome! The whole club watched, transfixed, as he ran through a couple of his own raps. Then they went wild. He went down a storm, especially with the younger observers. Charismatic and confident, we'll have him back too! Sam Barber (who plays guitar for FRAK) had the unenviable task of following K 9, but he bravely took his guitar and gave us some relaxed acoustic numbers. If you were quick, you could have picked up a free three-track c.d. from Mally at the mixing desk. Then we welcomed back ex-Rezillo William Mysterious, whose twelve-string guitar was now down to eight. And they were out of tune, prompting Mysterious to announce that he was going to break a lifetime's taboo, and tune up onstage. He got a standing ovation when he succeeded! He then proceeded tro give us solo versions of "It Gets Me" and "Flying Saucer Attack", and encored with a gob-smacking rendition of "Stand By Your Man", which brought the house down. No wonder the man is a legend. It was down to FRAK to round off the evening. They'd already been shooting a bit of footage for the video of "Last Band To Play 'Top Of The Pops'" before the club opened, but at least the guys in the band had changed out of their dresses. You'll have to wait until the single is released to see the Supremes-style dance routine. Apart from the aforementioned single, the band belted out "Song That I Wrote", "Heart Attack And Vine", "Nice Girl Wendy" and "Early Warning" amongst others, as well as debuting a stunning cover of "Only Happy When It Rains", a song that could have been written for new singer Becci. You can catch
FRAK at Bannermans on Friday 23rd April at Bannermans.
